Carbodeck

Carbon fiber / epoxy pultruded plates

Description Applications Benefits

Carbon fiber with epoxy matrix pultruded plates. These plates have one bonding surface with rough finish, protected by a removable film. They can be utilised for structural enhancement bonding with epoxy two-component adhesives. They can be utilised in alternative to metal plates applications. The dimensions of the plate and carbon fiber content have been specifically designed to make the Carbodeck plate especially adequate to enhance reinforced concrete structures such as: pre-compressed reinforced concrete, vaults, arcs, tuff walls, and wood structures.

  • Reinforcement to reduce bending deformations.
  • Improvement of bearing capacity
  • Reduction of tensions in existing metal rebars.
  • Improvement of fatigue loads resistance.
  • Restraint of propagation of cracks.
  • Improvement of structural life.
Compensation for design or execution errors.

  • Extremely light.
  • Very small plate dimensions.
  • Ease of handling.
  • No corrosion.
  • Very high tensile strength.
  • No maintenance.
  • No production limits for required lengths.
  • No joints necessary.

Instruction for use

The support surface must be prepared by mechanical de-scaling, and then must be made uniform by means of non shrinking mortar or putty or with polymeric mortar. Cut the plates in the required lengths. Mix the epoxy bond components as described by the material producer. Remove the film from the plate. Apply a uniform layer of epoxy on the rough side of the carbon plate by means of SS trowel. Place the plate onto the support and apply a constant pressure by means of hard rubber rollers until the excess bonding material comes out of the plate sides. If necessary support the plate by means of wood sticks or similar until the bonding material reaches complete polymerisation. Avoid exposure ultra-violet rays from direct sun which may cause some damage.
